I defected from the military and tried to cross into Ethiopia. But Eritrean security forces at the border shot me in the chest, then they broke my teeth and tortured me. I spent a year in jail, then a year in a hospital, but at last I escaped and came here. My wounds have not yet healed. I am a member of an Eritrean ethnic minority, and as a member of the camp’s Refugee Community Council, I help others from my ethnic group.
